Cumhachd Music is an eclectic mix of original metamodern music and art combined into a unique, soul-stirring, groove-bending, bass-pounding ecstasy. The name is Gàidhlig (Scots Gaelic) and is pronounced well enough in English as COO-walk. Cumhachd is not associated with any movement, organization or institution, political, religious or otherwise. Cumhachd Music is its own label and is not a derivative of or affiliated with any other record label.

Cumhachd strives to be a powerful and inspirational cultural jewel. Its music is about life, emotions, complex ideas and measured self-reflection. Its music is all original and independently produced. It’s music that is produced by musicians, not corporations. Call it eclectic, experimental, or avant-garde if you need to, but Cumhachd masters a multiplicity of styles and refuses to be limited to cardboard categories, gimmicky playlists, pretentious packaging or celebrity glamor. Cumhachd is about artistic character, not fake flash, conspicuous cash and superficial image.

The divide between “traditional”, “contemporary”, “pop”, “classical” and other various assortments of hashtag sub-categories that the streaming algorithms feed audiences is artificial and artistically myopic. With the rise of free-streaming platforms and technological advances in music production, the old music industry is struggling to continue as the gate-keeper of popular culture. However, it still controls most distribution channels and continues to push its simplistic and reductive content through foolish glitz, celebrity glamor and an endless rehash of its decades-old copyright holdings. 

The music world is in flux, but in a way that transcends the old paradigm of “alternative” styles co-existing with and competing for an accepted place in the old distribution channels. The music industry’s gate-keeper model is faltering because more and more artists are realizing that the digital platforms they partner with offer no real opportunities for new artists and that promises of exposure to big label A&R reps is a facade that’s designed to compel artists to share or surrender copyright without compensation. A new metaxis of music is emerging. Art and music is everyday life and blending high culture and pop culture all frame and guide the new shift. 

Loyal fans of Cumhachd are known as Cumhachdan (COO-walk-en). All of the music, both published and unpublished, are available for purchase on this website. The newest projects you won’t hear on the streaming platforms for months, if they are released at all, so following this site to stay current.

Cumhachd extends an open invitation to all artists for collaborations and encourages all artists to join in the effort to achieve equitable compensation, consideration and support for all fellow artists.
